Slightly better than the previous touchscreen but too few lessons have been learned
By J. Potter
The original Blackberry Storm was a hard piece of technology to use. A year has passed, the iPhone continues to lead the touchscreen revolution. So have RIM and Vodafone learned their lessons? The answer is, not really. The Storm2 is a great looking bit of kit very similar to the Blackberry Javelin in design. It is slightly bigger than the Javelin and of course has no keyboard. The storm2 screen is a considerable improvement on the previous storm screen. It is resistive so you still have to press it to the point it's like pressing a button but is an improvement. It can still feel very clunky though. Scrolling navigation is more responsive and works well once you know you should drag the pad of your fingers instead of the light touch of a nail. Typing in landscape (holding the Blackberry sideways) as with most touchscreen devices is just wonderful, although the resistive touchscreen and the physical clicking noise it makes can make you sound like a demented woodpecker when you build up speed. It really is quite loud and intrusive. In portrait mode, using this Blackberry as we are used to using Blackberry's I had nothing but problems. The keys are all squashed together and using the pad of fingers or nails made no difference. The light indicating key selection encompasses multiple keys so your not sure which key you actually pressed. Using portrait did get better with a lot of practise but ultimately I found the Storm2 almost unusable in portrait. Getting the thing unlocked (I am forced to use a password you may not)for a start is an ordeal that always ends with switching to landscape mode. There are a dizzying array of realtime correction/spellcheck technologies which I could not completely turn off.All in all this is a great looking bit of kit and working in landscape mode you can really tap away with abandon. But the screen still feels clunky despite the improvements and ultimately Blackberrys were not designed as a touchscreen OS. It feels like a bolt on despite sliding menu's and some neat effects. Quite severely impacting usage.

The Worst Offering Ever From Blackberry
By Mr. S. R. Parker
This may only be applicable to UK users as I have seen nothing similar from overseas, so if this is the case, please disregard this review. If you are a UK user, please read on and save yourself some heart-ache.I have been an avid Blackberry user for over 4 years comercially and had found my previous Curve 8300 an exceptional phone, offering the usual blend of email, phone, data and media to be excellent. I was naturally excited when I heard about the Storm and simply had to have one.Of the faults and quirks and general failings of this phone I have noted over the last 6 months, these I think are the worst and most problematic:1. Battery Life: After a full charge, a couple of phone calls and average 50 emails and 10 texts virtually run the battery down to flat.2. GPS: The constant GPS polling drains the battery at an alarming rate. Using the sat-nav feature with this means you have less than 90minutes of battery3. Phone Calls: The handset CANNOT cope with switching cells. If you are on the train or in the car and talking freely, as the phone switches between mobile cells you are simply cut off. This is so rudimentary it makes my cry a little inside, I havent had a phone for 10 years that couldnt cope with this fundamental requirement.4. Touch Screen: Even with the latest firmware, the touchscreen is terrible. The input lags behind you, it cant make its mind up if it wants to display in portrait or landscape and hangs and flips between the two, the touch interface is very imprecise so you can barely hit the right key, menus relating to other applications stay open even when you exit the application and, my favourite, the only time the screen is responsive is when you have it next to your face making a call, then it either cuts you off or mutes you with zero-pressure applied.Of the above, they render all the nice features of this phone useless. My advice, get the Bold or a Curve until they release a 'version 2' of this phone. Its simply not fit for purpose.

Not good
By Thomas
In theory, the touch screen is nice, but it's hard to type on and it doesn't seem sturdy enough to last the two years until I can upgrade again. Sometimes I had to press several times to make a selection. The Tour is like the Storm but without the touch screen, and I'm totally in love with it.
