Takes some tweaking but offers a good experience

I brought the Acer after reading some varied reviews.Basically I wanted a decent phone at a very affordable price point. So I managed to get hold of one of these while they where on offer.So what's it like....Well it's a mixed bag to be honest, the phone is responsive and the screen is bright and images are very crisp. Navigating round the phone though is where the issues start. Acer has applied it's only User Interface which takes some work getting use to... in fact I gave up! Luckily you can go into the settings and change this to the default Android configuration which is a god send.However what soon becomes apparent is that certain features only work in the Acer UI mode and not the standard Android mode. Which means you really do have to think carefully about what you wish to use, alternatively stick with the Android mode and then install Go Explorer Ex and you have a pretty swift functional unit.So while this sounds negative it really shouldn't be seen that way, Acer have given you a choice and that's what the Android experience is all about. The phone does handle pretty much everything thanks to it's enhanced snapdragon processor; which runs at 800Mhz but is the same as the old 1Ghz found in the HTC Desire and Android Nexus One; just more efficient.It does lack internal storage space but buy a 16GB micro SD card you've got it covered, the phone does have 512MB of system RAM which helps the processor and performance of the phone.The Camera is adequate and while it wont revolutionise the world in quality it's extremely practical thanks to a dedicated camera button on the right hand side. Just give it a press to start the camera, the volume controls turn into a zoom function and the press the camera button down to focus and fully click it to take a snap. It also has a flash which will help in dark places but this seems to add a blue hue to white areas. But as I said it does the job and is certainly an improvement over some of it's competitors like the HTC Wildfire.Battery life seems to be good, 1 charge gives me around 38 hours of standard usage, if I use it to play games and listen to music this drops considerable to around 12 - 16 hours.On the whole the phone is a good weight, feels comfortable to hold and gives you the flexibility to use the phone in your own way. My own real negative is the screen is plastic and not glass... at least it feels like plastic but that is because of it's curved bend supposedly which helps enlarge the screen.The phone has not switched off, locked up or done anything odd. It does receive over the air updates which means it automatically updates and installs the latest version of Android.If you can get this at a decent price then it's certainly worth looking at.

Fantastic Phone!

For a while i had been thinking of upgrading my phone to an android but did not think i could afford a decent one. Spending 3 hours online looking through possible phones on loads of websites and reading many reviews i summed up that this seemed the best option and looked a good price. There were hardly any bad comments made by reviewers so i thought i would give it a go. I was not disappointed! This is a brilliant phone especially for the price of it! Its processor is quick and so is access to the internet and emails. The display is great and you can download any apps from the android shop. One thing that did worry me before buying it was the fact that a few people said the battery life is poor. This is not the case! If you treat the phone well and turn all the internet and gps etc off when not in use it lasts quite a long time, more than i was expecting! One thing i still do not get is why the brown coloured phone is much cheaper than the black one on amazon. Trust me save the money and buy this one it's still majority black but is brown on the back casing which i think looks even better than if it was just completely black.All in all this is an amazing phone and i would highly recommend it!

Big Problems with Phone and Expansys

This is a true user experience so read on to be informed before making your purchase. I bought this phone January 2012 using Amazon Marketplace from Expansys UK Ltd. Initially delighted with phone and service but the problems started in just 6 weeks when the phone developed a connectivity fault resulting in lost calls. So sent the phone to Acer support for repair and after 4 weeks and much chasing it was returned but now the speaker did not work! A completely new fault rendering the phone useless and clearly the phone was not tested after the repair. My subsequent email to Acer support informing them of the new problem was completely ignored. So at this point I went back to Expansys to report the problems and to request a full refund as this phone was clearly not fit for purpose. Their reaction was to simply quote their own Terms and Conditions of Sale which state that a refund will not be made under any circumstances after 60 days from date of purchase. In short Expansys are not one bit interested in my problem! So 3 months after spending £139 on a brand new phone I am left without my money and do not have a working phone! Most fortunately I made this purchase using a credit card and at this point the matter is with them with a view to receiving a full refund on the basis that the phone is not fit for purpose. This has to be the worst internet shopping experience I have ever had.
