4A must for the Blackberry real keyboard fans
By Mike K
After having the phone for a few days I found my way around the new hardware and software without any major headaches after upgrading from a Blackberry Torch. The great news is it's much faster and hasn't been prone to the lock ups that plagued my old phone. The main immediate difference to anyone used to the older Blackberries is the lack of trackpad, something those of us who have been with the bberry since the side wheel have got used to. The touchscreen is very responsive and they have obviously put a lot of time and research into the new navigation system which is a familiar selection of app icons along with direct access to the 'hub' which gives access to emails and social media updates. Facebook, Twitter, Skype and LinkedIn are all supplied with phone with WhatsApp available to download. The ringing and other alerts don't seem quite as adaptable as on the old Blackberry and it took me a while to find a mode that just rings for the phone and vibrates for text. It's all there but not as easy to sort out as you might expect.I like the Blackberry Link software, it's intuitive and make transferring data from the old phone easy. Please note it will not transfer email addresses and passwords, the instructions advise setting all these up before using the Link software to transfer all the other data. Pleasingly all my saved wi-fi profiles came across without issues. It's also worth noting these new generation Blackberries do not use 'Blackberry Services' ie your emails do not go through a Blackberry server and now arrive and go in a similar way to laptops, iPhones and iPads. This makes a difference when choosing a data plan as emails will count as data and not Blackberry services.Although the battery has more capacity than the Z10 and the screen is smaller, in my experience and as with any of these 4G devices, daily charging is required. As soon as they get released I'm going to buy one of these BlackBerry N-X1 Battery and Charger for Q10My advice for anyone making the switch is to allow a few hours to get familiar with the Q10, it's a fantastic phone with internet access as fast and as accessible as the iPhone but it's a giant leap from the old software so needs a little getting used to.

5Love it!
By JAN
I do hate it when people compare blackberry phones to iPhones and android handsets! The blackberry is in a category of its own. You love it or hate it. I have an iphone 5, htc one and a galaxy note 2 at the time of writing (long story) however my blackberry is always the handset I never leave home without. I had the bold 9900 and upgraded to the z10. I didn't like it. For me blackberry is all about the physical keyboard. When the q10 appeared I just knew I would love it, and I do.I purchased it in white from carphonewarehouse as amazon not stocked it just yet. I honestly love it. Yes it is most definitely a giant leap in software terms away from the bold, but give it a few days and you will see how advanced the software is. We all hate change right but this is going to be the way forward from blackberry so I guess it's best to embrace change rather than fight it. The keyboard is amazing. You will love it. The screen is fabulous too. One point. Don't change font size to above 9 as if you do then you can't see what you are texting beyond line 3! I am sure blackberry will sort this out shortly. So if in doubt, buy. Give it a few days trial, then see how invaluable a device it becomes. Honest.

4Keypad fabulous, miss the trackpad and keys alongside it, though.
By Suze
My contract was just up and I have upgraded to the Q10 because I like a keyboard and I don't really like touchscreens. My last BB [ a Bold ] had a keyboard and a touchscreen like this one.I've only had the phone a day so I am just setting it all up and haven't got strong opinions yet but my initial thoughts are.......The keyboard on the Q10 is way better than any other BB I have had.It just feels better under the fingers and is a wee bit wider so you don't tend to slip your fingers onto the wrong letter and have to delete and retype [like I often do on a touchscreen keypad]They have removed the trackpad/ball and the keys that were alongside it, so you have no back arrow or blackberry icon or phone icon to press like you are used to.TBH I can see they have removed that row of keys so they can use the space it took up as extra screen, but I would have preferred that row of keys to remain and the actual handset be a bit longer for extra screen. Also this phone has a micro SIM card so you will need to buy a SIM card adaptor to use this SIM in a spare phone that uses a normal sized SIM.The back is a weird plasticky stuff but it feels nice in the hand and doesn't show up fingerprints like the last Bold did - but it's not as nice as the leather back on the Bold 9900.I had a problem rigging up twitter from the twitter icon. The blurb says you just go into accounts, click on the twitter icon and key in username and password and it should be set up. I couldn't get into twitter. I just got a whirly thing that never connected.I went into BB World, downloaded the twitter App and set it all up again - and it worked. You may need to do this too.Regarding Email account set up - there is the same ease of set up for hotmail and live email accounts. You just go into accounts, add account, select email account and key in email address and password and....it's set up.Not so with my BT ones. I can send email from the phone but can't receive.I'm assuming BT will be able to give me the correct settings to solve this but it's too late now for me to ring them and ask, so I'll have to tackle that problem tomorrow.[SEE MY EDITED BIT AT THE END OF MY REVIEW. I HAVE NOW WORKED OUT HOW TO SET UP BT EMAIL. If you are a Vodafone customer, their mobile email site which sets up emails for you cannot recognise the Q10 so you can't use that site for set up. You will have to do it how I've set out below.]Also, the default setting for email notifications seems to be 'no sound' so you may need to go into each account to set it to 'sound' and then choose which sound you want to notify you of mail received.I thought none of my email accounts were working because I heard no notifier. But the hotmail and Live ones were working, its just that I got no sound to tell me emails had been received because in email settings, the sound was on the 'no sound' option!I may have done something to make the sound selector go to the off position without realising, but I suspect silent was the default notifier setting. So if I'm right, you will need to activate the sound on each of your email accounts.Customising the icons is easy. Bit like on Androids. You hold your finger over the icon you want to move, a blue line appears next to it and you swipe your finger to where you want it to go.There are a few pages of icons so if you want to move one from one page to another you have to make sure your swipe action goes right across the screen and off the edge, otherwise the icon just moves across the page it is currently on, rather than into the next page.If you aren't used to touchscreens, the swiping takes some getting used to.And if you want to create a folder to shove several icons in together, you hold your finger over one icon, then wait for all the icons to vibrate, then you move the icon on top of another and let go. A folder appears, give it a name, and then do the same thing to move any other icons into that folder. If you want to take an icon out of a folder, you just swipe it to the bottom of the page and it escapes. All very easy.Worth noting also - Blackberry Desktop can't recognise the Q10 so you have to download Blackberry Link to backup your stuff and transfer stuff from an old BB to the Q10.Download of Link is easy enough and so is backup.Another useful tip - if you increase the font size above '9' when you are texting you will only be able to read the first two lines of your text in the text box. If you type more lines than two, you will need to scroll down to read it before sending. If you keep the font size at 9 or below your whole message will be visible as you type.I have very long sight and increasing font size is important to me, but I can read my texts ok on '9'And the text in the web browser is small because of being set to '9' - but you just 'pinch' the screen with finger and thumb to zoom and read. There isn't a lot of choice for notifier tones, but the ones there are seem ok.I have copied and pasted some songs to use as ringtones rather than use the ones that come with the phone. As the ringtones aren't that abundant either. So far that's as far as I've got with it.I can't comment yet on battery life as it's my first day with it and I've been setting stuff up rather than using the browser or making calls or looking at youtube yet. I'll edit my review as I discover more about it.My main gripe about it is that RIM have taken away the row of keys and the trackpad - but I think that's just because after using BB's for ages I've got so used to having it there and I just need to break the habit. The other thing I'm not sure about is this 'hub' thing that RIM think is so marvellous. For example, on the lock screen if you have had a call or a message, a notifier appears on the lock screen - but you can't get into the message by tapping on it. You have to go into the hub thingy and scroll to get to your message.Maybe there's another way, but I haven't found it yet. But, apart from those few niggles I really like the phone. One star deducted because I miss the trackball and the keys that were next to it.So, to sum up.......If you want loads of Apps, a fab touchscreen and camera - don't get this.If you want a fab keyboard for texting and emailing - this one is worth looking at. The keyboard on this is the best phone keyboard I've had.Oh and they no longer supply a case/wallet - only headphones and charging cable with USB and a USB plug adaptor are in the box.Hope this helps. Also bear in mind that if you need to ring your mobile phone service provider, they may not be very knowledgeable about the Q10 yet because it is so new. Or maybe that's just Vodafone. :)EDIT - BT emails are now set up. You have to go into 'advanced' to set them up fully. On the Accounts page, press Add Account then press on the advanced thingy at the bottom. You will need to set the account up under Yahoo! because BT use yahoo servers. In Display Name put what you want the account to show up as in the Hub,in Username put your full email address. Then enter your email address and password in the relevant boxes, submit - and it's set up.Make sure sound is on in each of your addresses. And the BT emails should now come through. They do seem to take a long time though.I had my laptop on and sent an email from my hotmail to my BT emails and they were received on the laptop instantly but took quite a while longer to come through on the phone.SECOND EDIT - I left the phone on all night and the battery was still well charged. So far so good!THIRD EDIT - battery life is really good. I was charging my old Blackberry up daily. This one stays charged for ages. And now I've got used to there being no trackpad or ball, I am happier. I still really miss that back arrow to get out of web pages etc though, so I'm still not giving it five stars.I find the display clear and watching youtube videos is also clear.I am very happy with this phone.
