Great phone for kids ( or anyone really )

For the price this was a fantastic bargain. Bought just before xmas for eldests present.Easily upgradable from the stock android to a later version ( via huawei's website) to ensure its running a faster os.Easily fast enough for games and put my old htc desire hd to shame.Storage is smallish, but for £10 you can put an enormous SD card in it, or just use cloud storage.Very impressed. Definitely a brand to keep an eye on.

This amateur review was made after 3 weeks of daily usage.So, where to start? First of all, I'm quite a virgin smartphone user, my previous experience is not so extensive as i've just started using smartphones this year! My first experience was with an iPhone, the original 2G model. After that I played quite a lot with a Nokia Lumia 620 which i absolutely loved and then i had my hands on an HTC HD Desire. Now, i knew that Huawei is a very capable hardware producer so i can't say i was to stressed about testing waters with this producer. Basically, I wanted to get a good piece of hardware without spending a fortune and that's exactly what Huawei is all about. Don't care about the branding too much? Huawei might be a very smart choice for you.In general, the phone is very snappy and performs most operations fast and very fast. Sometimes when i push home button it has to wait a few moments (Loading...) for some reason, but that was happening on the HTC as well and I believe it's an Android issue rather than a hardware one. The finishing quality is quite impressive for this budget. The plastic on the backcover is not the best in the world in look and feel (as in, feels quite cheap) but it has a nice texture and it feels very sturdy and solid so i don't mind it. The metal frame is protecting the screen very well, i dropped on the asphalt once and it bounced and rolled over, but the resulting damage was surprinsingly small (recommend a cover of some sort anyway). The screen has good enough colors and black, compared to the Lumia 620 i can't really see much difference. It also seems pretty scratch proof, i forgot the phone in the pocket with the keys quite a few times and it still doesn't have any scratches. I love the plug & playness of the Android system, works extremely well. Practically like a regular USB key, plugin, turn on usb sharing and then start to copy whatever you want on it. Not like Nokia's Phone Suite or Iphone's annoying itunes! The standard music app preinstalled has this magic button called FOLDERS, which means i can just go to folder structure and listen tomusic as i organized it and copied from the laptop, without any worrying about mp3 tags and others. It's a big time saver!I must say, the general feel of the phone feels quite premium. It's not perfect, sometimes it might get a little stuck, but nothing serious. All in all don't forget this is a "prehistoric" model, being a 2011 model so it runs Gingerbread. Not sure what's the big deal with ICS but i didn't bother to upgrade as all my apps are working just fine. Oh, one more thing, i really like the screen lock, it looks very modern and stylish, compared to many other phones.Also, the camera. I must say, coming from D-SLRs i'm quite happy. It's not super sharp but it produces very nice tones and colors and it performs surprisingly well in low light conditions.----------------UpdateA friend managed to update it to ICS 4 and I am very happy with the upgrade as the phone is faster, pictures are loading much faster and those moments getting stuck are almost gone. It's definitely a big overall improvement over the Gingerbread version. And one more thing, i really like the camera, it produces very good quality images, beautiful colors, almost dslr like. Battery life has also much improved after the ICS upgrade.

Well, I was concerned at the low number of reviews for this phone, but now I have owned it for a little while, man, is everyone else missing out! Given the cost of sim free rivals, 2 or 3 times the cost, this phone is the best bargain ever! Out of the box, I was using it within minutes. Very easy and intuitive to use and personalise. Wifi works brilliantly, faster than my home pc, and the 3g is equally fast for browsing whilst on the train. The camera and video are excellent and quick to start up. The screen is great, ideal size for viewing and fits perfectly in my hands. (Small hands for a man apparently!) Power saving mode is great feature and means the battery lasts for days between charges, which charges very quickly by the way.I could bore you with much more, but you have to buy one to fully appreciate how good this phone is. Well done Huawei (or 'who are we?' as I like to call them) for delivering a great phone at a great price and shame on you others for massively over charging the rest of the population!
